Last week as I was in the classroom, Mr. Ricke gave a lesson on plotting points, slope, slope/ intercept form, and point/slope form. Majority of the class remembered how to find the slope by using the formula but just in case Mr. Ricke did a quick review with the class. I like how he reviews the previous objectives with the class to refresh their memory. The class first worked on a work sheet covering these subject on their own. Mr. Ricke gave instruction about how to do each set of problems, but he only told them to the class twice. Most of the students knew exactly what to do on each problem, but some kept asking him what to do on the problems. I instead would have wrote what he wanted them to do on the board for them to see. Some of the students had trouble doing the question by themselves at first but once Mr. Ricke put them into groups to work together it was good. I walked around the classroom to each student and group to make sure they were doing everything correct. Some students weren't finding the slope correctly so i corrected them right away. Other had simple arithmetic error that I told them to check again. Some groups worked very well together, other not so much. One time was up for the groups to work together, he had them find their seats so they would go over the correct answers. The students reported the scores then he stated that 6 of the problems had a second part which he would teach them and go over some of the problem with them. He went over how to do the first 2 of 6 problem with the class then ad the class finish. One student was not very motivated to do anything, myself and Mr. Ricke had to urge her to follow along and right down the work so she knows how to do the homework. She finally gave in and followed along with Mr. Ricke and the homework. I learned that I will have to keep an eye on each and every student to make sure they aren't falling behind in the class.
